www.SolarEnergyGuide.net – How to Make a Homemade Solar Panel Solar panels, unlike before, are cheap and easy to install with great efficiency. With this advent, you can save big money as well as help save the environment. A DIY kit is available and has an easy to follow instruction with them. What you need is some simple tools and you’re done. Here is your guide to make a homemade solar panel 1. First, you must know the loads of your solar panel and the package that is affordable to you. One watt of solar panel module will coast you about and a 200 watts module is around 00. If you need more power, you can connect this to form a collector to produce your desired power needs. Electrical connections are made in series to achieve a desired output voltage and/or in parallel to provide a desired amount of current capability. 2. After selecting the solar panel modules, you need a charge controller which is an important system component that regulates the voltage generated by the solar panel. This will regulate your power and provide protection to the batteries from being over or under-charged. 3. Next, you need a solar inverter this will convert 12 volt DC (direct current) from solar panel to 125 volts AC (alternating current) which will feed your appliances. Some high end inverters combine an inverter, battery charger and dual transfer switch in one package. 4. Batteries are needed if there is no sun or there is a blackout in your area. Typically, lead acid batteries …

Question by Dancer: How is energy from solar panels converted to energy that can be used for solar power?
I want to do a science project where I create my own solar panels out of different materials to see which one will produce the greatest amount of energy. Is this a realistic topic if it has to be done before Thanksgiving? If so, how do I make the solar panels? How do I measure/convert the energy? Please help!

Best answer:

Answer by OtherGuy
You might be able to manage solar panels to warm water.
This would be used, for example, in a home to reduce energy needed by the hot water heater.

Other types of solar panels, such as those that make electricity, you would not be able to make at home.

Build A Home Solar Panel-Learn How To Build A Home Solar Panel

The best thing about solar power is that it has an unlimited potential. Contrary to the popular belief learning how to build a home solar panel is easy. You just need to know how to make your own renewable energy source and today I am going to tell you exactly how to build your own solar panels for electricity.

Before you build a home solar panel, you’ll need to learn some basics on how exactly do solar panels work. This way, the entire procedure will be much easier to handle.

The process starts with solar modules. They are the main components exposed directly to sunlight. Their main function is to convert the sun’s energy into usable electrical power for your home appliances. To get them correctly installed, solar modules are to be mounted on a steel frame and positioned on your roof top.
Power produced by the solar modules is converted from Direct Current (DC) to Alternating Current (AC) through a inverter. Usually, Alternating Current (AC) is the usable electrical power that we need to power the home appliances.

Next, the electrical power transfers from the inverter to the electrical service panel. The electrical service panel is used for distributing the electrical power to different parts of your house for use.

The unused electrical power produced by the solar panels will then be brought into the grid all the way through the utility electric meter. As a result, the meter will be made to spin backwards and this establishes a credit with the utility company in offsetting future usage. This method is known as Net Metering and is completely approved by State Level Electricity Policy.

Learning how to build a home solar panel isn’t really a difficult task. You don’t require many skills beyond being able to handle wiring & basic tools with care and safety measures.

The components needed for constructing solar panels include:-

1. Solar Cells
2. Copper Wire
3. Sheet Plywood
4. Clear PVC Sheeting
5. General Tools (Drills, screwdrivers, woodwork glue etc)

All these parts can be easily bought from the local hardware store. Photovoltaic cell is the only component that you might have to search online and it can be found easily on eBay.

Quality directions that are easy to follow are vital to find when trying to build your own solar panel. This will make the building process less stressful and make you happier that you made the choice to do it yourself. Online is just one of the places you are able to find some of these manuals. We have reviewed the best guides available to help you to learn how to build your own solar panel system for electricity.
Question by Andres C: how to build solar panels?
I would like to know how do you build a solar panel?

Best answer:

Answer by aviophage
There are several types of solar panels. If you mean photovoltaic panels for generating electricity, that is a really advanced project that few amateurs are equipped to do. In the long run, it will be a lot cheaper and easier to buy factory made PV panels.

You can try building one by sandwiching an array of photovoltaic cells between a sheet of glass or plexiglass and a sheet of aluminum. Remember that this assembly must be able to withstand great heat, and it must be sealed to make absolutely sure it does not leak.

So basically, you need to lay out the PV cells and wire them together to get the desired voltage and current, with some arrangement to allow the wires to extend outside without leaking. Then you enclose the panel around all four edges with aluminum channel and seal with silicone sealer. Lay it on thick and test thoroughly with water hoses to eliminate all leaks.

As mentioned, it’s easier and cheaper to buy them factory made.

If you mean a heat collector for a solar house heating system or hot water system, that is just a matter of building a thin, flat aluminum box with a glass lid. For hot air, you just need to circulate the air through the box when the sun is shining. For water, you need to have some arrangement to pass the water through the compartment in thin walled metal tubing. You won’t be surprised when I say it’s cheaper to buy one factory made.

Good luck.

Question by spoil9: If I add 4 large 12V computer fans to my roof vent and power them by a solar panel, will it make a difference?
i would like to construct 4x 12VDC computer fans under my roof vent. These would be wired in parallel to a 12V solar panel (Wattage depending on size of fans). I know this would only work during the day, but that’s really all I need. My question is, would this make a difference in the temp in the attic or am I wasting my time. Really, I don’t want to spend 0 of a pre-made kit and have to replace the vent.

Question by Mr. H: Where can I buy a complete solar kit for a home?
Is there companies that sell complete solar kits (solar panels, inverters, regulators etc) but excluding the batteries and excluding installation?
The inverter needs to provide 220V and not 110V (or both) and the company needs to be willing to export.
The inverter needs to be between 5000kva and 7000kva and I need between 2000W and 3000W worth of solar panels.
Thanks.

Question by Jaymie Moore: save/make money with solar DIY?
I get the part of the solar panel, but the wiring of components gets me down. I don’t want an independent circuit, i want the energy to go directly into the house to save on energy.
I want to know what component/s to use and how it works, because i don’t want to be completely clueless. I have been in an electrical course so i understand well, but my memory is not at is best.

i ask this question because the parts are all there to buy, but most don’t explain what they do or how they do it. I want to be able to make an educated dessication on what to use.

Best answer:

Answer by Dan B
By your question, I would HIGHLY recommend you hire a contractor well versed in solar power systems. If not done correctly, you WILL BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN – GUARANTEED! Your power company must also get involved. They don’t want their employees getting electrocuted by back fed power from your home to the grid. That would really fry their a$$.

If your power isn’t synchronized with the grid power, you WILL DESTROY YOUR SOLAR SYSTEM – GUARANTEED.

You can’t just simply plug in a power generating system, solar or gasoline powered generator, and expect to save money. It doesn’ t work that way.

Google “Solar power systems for your home” and you’ll see what is involved. Not for the layman homeowner.
